Healthful Hints -K to N-
These organs are responsible for the excretion of wastes, principally urea, from the blood. The kidneys are situated on the back of the abdomen, below the diaphragm, one on each side of the spine. They are supplied with blood by the renal arteries. Often when there is a kidney problem there is a weakness in the pancreas.
Foods: Limit or avoid salt, animal protein, chocolate, spinach, rhubarb. Do not smoke. Do not drink alcohol. A soothing drink to ease and clear kidney congestion is barley water. Place three ounces of unpolished barley in two cups of distilled water. Boil the mixture down to one cup. Strain and cool. Sip slowly. A little lemon juice can be added for flavour. Foods that build the kidneys: silicon foods, potassium foods, strawberries, barley water and barley, parsley, watermelon, cherries and cherry juice, pomegranate juice, lemon juice, one tablespoon of gin to eight ounces of water, sipped through the day.
Supplements: Vitamin B6, Manganese (one, three times a week until the container is finished, wait 6 months).
Herbs: Alfalfa, Horsetail, Eyebright, Cornsilk, Juniper, Parsley, Uva Ursi, Marshmallow, Dandelion, Chlorophyll, Queen of the Meadow. A tea of dried Parsley, Oatstraw and Horsetail is helpful. Note: Do not continually take Horsetail. Switch to another herb. The body gets used to it so you no longer get the effect.
Homeopathic: Cantharis, Chamomile, Euphrasia (but not Eyebright Herb at same time) Urtica Urens, Sarsaparilla, Causticum, Tissue Salt #4 (Ferrum phos.) for pain over kidney area, Tissue Salt #9 (Nat . Mur.) for retention of urine.
Legs:
There are many problems that can occur with the legs. Several are listed here.
Arthritis: See general section on Arthritis.
Homeopathic: Rhus Tox.
Cramps: This usually indicates a lack of calcium. Take calcium foods and Tissue Salt #2 (Calcium Phos.) which is easily absorbed.
Homeopathic: Cuprum Met, Calcium Carb, Tissue Salt #2 (Calcium Phos).
Bodywork: Castor Oil packs.
Supplements: Vitamin C in high doses (unless one has A type blood).
Homeopathic: Arnica 200 taken immediately followed in a few hours by a combination of Arnica, Rhus Tox, Hypericum in 200 potency. Ruta Graveolens is also excellent for muscles.
Sore Knees: If not from an injury, treat as if the condition is Arthritis. Cut out all sugar and bread. See general section on Arthritis.

The largest gland in the body. It is situated in the top right portion of the abdominal cavity. The liver has a number of important functions. It synthesizes bile which drains into the gall bladder before being released into the duodenum. The liver is an important site of metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It regulates the amount of blood sugar by converting excess glucose to glycogen. It removes excess amino acids by breaking them down into ammonia and finally urea. It also stores and metabolizes fat. The liver has an important roll in the detoxification of poisonous substances and it breaks down worn out red cells. Furthermore, it synthesizes Vitamin A and stores this along with Vitamin B12, Vitamin D and Vitamin K.
Foods: Apples, apricots, carrots, celery, dulse, halibut, kelp, leeks, lemons and juice, onions, salmon, squash, sweet potatoes.
Supplements: B Complex Vitamins, Vitamin C, Choline and Inogitol, Selenium (one every second day).
Herbs: Dandelion (roots and leaves), Chlorophyll, Parsley, Black Radish, Artichokes and Artichoke Juice, Yellow Dock.
Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #11 (Natrum Sulph.) Chelidonium, Lachesis, Lycopodium, Phosphorus, Taraxacum (but do not take Dandelion herb at same time). These organs of respiration, situated in the chest cavity on either side of the heart, are fibrous, elastic sacs that are expanded and compressed by movements of the rib cage and diaphragm during breathing. Foods: Apples, apricots, carrots, cauliflower, watercress, parsnips, wheat germ, safflower oil. Keep away from hard fats. Phlegm indicates an acid condition and incomplete digestion of carbohydrates. Switch to a more alkaline diet and silicon foods (see list). Catarrah could indicate a lack of potassium. See potassium foods.
Bodywork: Walking, deep breathing, swimming, rebounder. Play the mouth organ to help build the lungs.
Supplernents: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, B Complex Vitamins, Vitamin E, Manganese.
Herbs: For coughs, hoarseness, catarrah , whooping cough: Fenugreek, Ginger, Licorice, Comfrey, Mullein. For coughs to help expell, Eucalyptus. Bronchitis, Echinacea. Congestion, Lobelia. Tea for congestion: 1/4 teaspoon of Cayenne, 1/4 teaspoon of Ginger, 1 Tablespoon honey, 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 2 cups hot water. Mucus in the lungs: Comfrey, Fenugreek.
Homeopathic: Bryonia, Antimonium Sulph, Kali Bich. Left lung: Lachesis. Right lung: Lycopodium. Lower lobe of lungs: Phosphorus. Phlegm:
Tissue Salt #5 (Kali mur.)
A state in which absorption of one or more substances by the small intestine is reduced. It commonly affects fat, vitamins (for example B12, Folic acid, Vitamins A, D and K), electrolytes such as calcium and potassium, iron and amino acids. Symptoms include weight loss, diarrhea, anemia, edema, and vitamin deficiencies. Some causes of malabsorption are celiac disease, chronic pancreatitis and cystic fibrosis.
Foods: It would be wise to try an elimination diet. The following should be considered. Eliminate all gluten foods, milk, cheese, butter, sugar, eggs. If the problem still persists, eliminate coffee, tea and tomatoes.
Herbs: Comfrey, Marshmallow, Slippery Elm, Echinacea, Chaparral.
There can be many causes of memory loss, including injury. However, in many cases, the following have been found to be useful.
Foods: Celery, prunes, rice polishings, carrot juice, sodium foods (see list).
Supplements: Lecithin, Vitamin B6, Inositol and Choline, Zinc, Manganese (one three times a week until the container is used up), B Complex Vitamins.
Herbs: Gotu Kola, Rosemary, Sage tea.
Herbs: Gotu Kola, Rosemary, Sage tea. Homeopathic: Anacardium, Oleander, Gonium, Medorrhinum, Sulphur.
The time in a woman's life when the ovaries cease to produce an egg at regular intervals. Menstruation ceases and the woman is no longer able to bear children. At the time of menopause there is a change in the balance of sex hormones in the body, which sometimes leads to hot flashes, palpitations, and dryness of the mucous membranes lining the vagina.
Foods: Silicon foods (see list), Calcium foods (see list).
Bodywork: Walking, swimming, Tai Chi, rebounding.
Supplements: Vitamin E (increase slowly to 800 IU, all taken in the morning). If there are any cysts or tumors however, go easy. Ovarian Substance, zinc, calcium, pantothenic acid, manganese (one three times a week until container is finished, repeat every six months).
Herbs: Damiana (two at breakfast), Ginger, Black Cohosh (not too much, as it can cause headaches), Don Quai, Passion Flower.
Homeopathic: Sepia, Pulsatilla. A recurrent throbbing headache that characteristically affects one side of the head. It is possibly caused by contraction and then dilation of the arteries of the brain. Diet, neck injuries, nervousness and stress could be other contributing factors. Sometimes there is a forewarning of an attack: an aura consisting of flickering bright lights or blurred vision which clears up as the headache develops. The headache itself is often accompanied by prostration and vomiting. Foods: Juices such as carrot, beet and apple combined, spring water. Avoid chocolate and red wine. Bodywork: Make sure the circulation is working well. Do a lot of walking to help prevent migraines. Supplements: Chlorophyll, Calcium, PABA, Vitamin B12. Herbs: One combination that has been used very successfully is 15 to 20 drops Damiana tincture every two hours, together with Tissue Salt #9 (Natrum Mur.). If very severe migraine take every half hour. Homeopathic: Iris, Tissue Salt #9 (Natrum Mur.).
Supplements: Evening Primrose Oil.
Homeopathic: Graphites, Sulphur (good for hang nails).
No Half Moons: An indication of poor circulation (see circulation).
Soft Nails: These break easily and indicate that the body is low in hydrochloric acid. Therefore, there is a problem with protein digestion.
Vertical Ridges: Lack of Iron (see iron foods), Vitamin B12, Folic acid.
Horizontal Ridges: Lack of calcium, B Complex Vitamins. An indication the body is under stress.
Brittle Nails: Lack of Vitamin A, Calcium, B Complex Vitamins, and Biotin.
Slow Growing Nails; Lack of Amino Acids, Sulphur.
Food: Black tea with a little milk will often help. Bodywork: Draw an imaginary line across the back under the armpits. Massage either side of the spine in this area, above and below the line. Supplements: Vitamin B3. Herbs: One or two drops of eucalyptus can be put on the tongue. Camomile, Echinacea, Alfalfa together with Red Raspberry is good for morning sickness, Catnip tea (sip). Homeopathic: Carbo Veg, Nux Vom, Hypericum, Ipecacuanha, Antimonium Crud, Belladonna.
Whenever there is emotional or mental stress, the nerves are robbed of their vitality. Sometimes one has to evaluate lifestyle and seriously consider making changes. In the meantime, rebuilding the nervous. system is a good idea.
Foods: Pineapple, celery, quinoa.
Supplements: B Complex Vitamins, taken at breakfast or lunch but not after 2.00 p.m. Too much makes the muscles feel tired. Vitamin B6, Magnesium (not too much), Calcium, Pantothenic Acid, Silicon Foods (see list).
Herbs: Camomile, Catnip, Passion Flower, Skullcap, Valerian, Hops (but not if depressed), Red Clover, Sage.
Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #6 (Kali Phos) Chamomilla (not when taking the herb Camomile).
Supplements: Vitamin K, Chlorophyll.
Homeopathic: Phosphorus, Tissue Salt #4 (Ferrum Phos.), for children.
