Hair:

 

Hair is often a barometer for the body's overall condition. For all hair conditions, keep the bowels and kidneys working well

 

Dry, Brittle: Can be caused by lack of iodine. See Iodine foods.

 

Excessive Loss Supplements: B Complex Vits., PABA, Folic Acid, Choline and Inositol.

 

Herbs: Chickweed, Alfalfa.

 

Homeopathy: Sepia, Silica, Tissue Salt #3 (Calc Sulph).

 

Grey Hair: Check the thyroid (See section on Thyroid).

 

Supplements: Pantothenic acid

 

Homeopathic: Thyroidium

 

Heavy Growth:  Due to an imbalance in the Pituitary Gland

 

Dandruff:

 

Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #7 (Kali Sulph).

Hands:

Unsteady hands:

Check and correct thyroid. (see Thyroid)

Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #8 (Mag Phos).

 

Cold Hands: Can be a sign of poor circulation (see section on Circulation).

 

Herbs: Sage tea.

 

Homeopathic: Psorinum

 

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome:

This problem is due to a compression of the median nerve as it enters the palm of the hand. This causes pain and numbness in the index and middle fingers and weakness in the muscle of the thumb.

 

Supplements: Vitamin B6, Niacin, Vitamin C, Rutin.

 

Hayfever:

 

A form of allergy due to pollen of grasses, trees and other plants. It is characterized by inflammation of the membrane lining the nose and sometimes the conjunctiva. The symptoms of sneezing, running and blocked nose, and watering eyes are due to histamine release. Histamine is the natural defense mechanism normally kept in moderate levels in the blood and tissues.

 

Supplements: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, B Complex Vitamins.

 

Herbs: Echinacea, Ginger, Cayenne, Garlic, Alfalfa, Fenugreek, Eucalyptus (use in small doses), Juniper.

 

Headaches:

There are many causes of headaches, such as dietary problems, stress, poor eyesight, milk allergy, toothaches, sinus problems, to mention a few.

 

Foods: Monitor high protein foods. Concentrate more on a vegetarian diet with some fish. Avoid monosodium glutamate

(MSG), especially found in Chinese food.

 

Bodywork: A cold footbath will often help to draw toxins from the stomach and reduce the problem. Put feet in cold water for

fifteen minutes as often as needed A cold water poultice can be applied instead of a footbath.

 

Supplements: Calcium, B Complex Vitamins.

 

Herbs: Fenugreek, Wood Betony and Thyme taken together, Ginger, Passion Flower (for nervous headaches).

 

Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #3 (Call Sulph) for general headache, Tissue Salt #8 (Mag Phos) for shooting, stabbing pain,

Asafoetida for pressure headache, Tissue Salt #6 (Kali Phos) for dizziness, Flux Vomit 30C, one dose a year, Ignatia, up to

five doses can be taken.

 

Heart:

 

A hollow musclar cone shaped organ lying between the lungs. The heart is about the size of a closed fist. Its walls consist largely of cardiac muscles lined and surrounded by membrane. It is divided into seperate right and left halves, each of which is divided into an upper atrium and a lower ventricle.

 

Foods: Carrots (best calcium food), onions, asparagus, mushrooms. To strengthen the heart, eliminate all devitalized flour

products. Make sure the digestion is working well as poor digestion can put stress on the heart. Starches slow the heartbeat,

proteins increase the heartbeat. If lying down causes a pounding in the head, this could be caused by poor protein digestion. It

would be wise to have it checked out.

 

Bodywork: Make sure the bowel is working well. Skin brushing should be done on a daily basis. When the skin is working well,

it takes stress off the internal organs.

 

Supplements: Vitamin E, B Complex Vitamins, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron foods, Potassium foods.

 

Herbs: Hawthorn (strengthens the heart), Capsicum, Garlic, Motherwort, Bugleweed, Mullein.

 

Homeopathic: Crataegus(don't take Hawthorn while taking this remedy). Cactus, Naja, Digitalis.

 

Hemorrhage:

The following are first aid steps to help control this problem.

 

Supplement: Liquid chlorophyll (rich in Vitamin K), 4 tablespoons in water four times a day for 4 days.

 

Herbs: External bleeding: ‑ Cayenne, Plantain Internal bleeding: Cayenne, Golden Seal, White Oak Bark.

 

Nosebleed: Golden Seal, White Oak Bark.

 

Homeopathic: Arnica, Carbo Vegetabilis, China, Tissue Salt #4 (Ferrum Phos).

Hemorrhoids (Piles):

These are enlarged veins in the wall of the anus, usually caused by prolonged constipation or occasionally diarrhea.

Foods: Eat more fruits, raw vegetables and grains. Monitor intake of meat and eat more fish. Artichokes are excellent.

Supplements: Bioflavinoids, Vitamin E.

 

Herbs: White Oak Bark, Aloe Vera Juice, Psyllium, Slippery Elm.

 

Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #1 (Calcium fluoride), Hamamelis (don't take if taking White Oak Bark), Aesculus Forte, Hydrastis.

 

High Blood Pressure:

 

Sometimes lifestyle may need to be changed. Reducing stress can go a long way to lowering blood pressure. Learn how to relax. Always make sure to have your blood pressure checked by a doctor.

 

Foods: Garlic, olives, strawberries, grapes, brown rice, rye, parsley. Check for milk allergies. Not too much tea or coffee.

Cut out salt and smoking.

 

Bodywork: Try exercises such as walking, Tai Chi, swimming.

 

Supplements: Evening Primrose Oil, Bioflavinoids, Vitamin E.

 

Herbs: Valerian, Hawthorn, Linden, Camomile, Dandelion, Garlic, Capsicum

 

Homeopathic: Viscum Album, Arnica.

 

Hives:

 

Cleanse the liver.                                               ‑

 

Foods: Check for milk and food allergies. Drink 5 to 6 large glasses of spring water a day.

 

Supplements: Evening Primrose Oil, Chlorophyll, PABA.

 

Herbs: Swedish Bitters, Chaparrel, Calendula ointment, applied topically, Aloe Vera taken internally and applied topically.

 

Homeopathic: Rhus Tox

Hormone Imbalance:

In Women:

Supplements: Vitamin E (but do not take this if there are breast problems). Bodywork: Exercise

Herbs: Damiana, Don Quai.

 

In Men:

 

Bodywork: Exercise. Herbs: Ginseng, Vitamin E, Kelp.

 

Hypoglycemia:

 

A deficiency of glucose in the bloodstream causing muscular weakness and uncoordination, mental confusion and sweating. In a hypoglecemic condition the adrenals are under stress. The pancreas is also affected. Children can take on a "Jekyll. and

Hyde" emotional state.

 

The symptoms are many and varied, but keep in mind they could also be related to something else, so have a physician check this out. Possible signs: Headaches, Leg cramps, Nerves, Insomnia, Cold sweats, Fatigue, Allergies, Stomach problems, Light headedness, Mental problems, Alcoholism, Migraine, Forgetfulness, Bloating, Cold hands and feet, Joint pain, Blurred vision, Numbness.

 

Foods: It is better to have a number of small meals a day than 3 large meals. This is easier on the system. Eat lots of whole

grains, eliminate milk, limit cheese, monitor potatoes and rice. If one has a 3 o'clock energy slump, protein foods such as

almonds should be taken. Also a little maple syrup under the tongue will help to raise the energy level.

 

Supplements: B Complex Vitamins (if eating sugar there will be a B Complex deficiency. B complex Vitamins metabolize

carbohydrates). Zinc, Niacin, Vitamin C, Silicon foods (the Pancreas is a silicon organ), Pantothenic acid, Potassium foods,

Liquid Chlorophyll.

 

Herbs: Yucca, Chaparral, Licorice, Dandelion, Safflower, Juniper. No Golden Seal.

 

Suggestion for a Hypoglycemia Diet: Upon rising: one glass of warm water to cleanse the stomach, followed by 4

oz. fresh juice.

 

Breakfast: A choice of, millet, buckwheat, cornmeal, egg, cottage cheese, yogurt.

2 hours after Breakfast: 4 oz. fresh juice (vegetable is preferred) or fruit.

 

Lunch: Soup, generous raw salad (vegetable) with a little health mayonnaise or other dressing, steamed vegetables, whole grain cereal, health beverage.

 

3 hours after Lunch: 8 oz. nut milk or seed milk or vegetable juice or nuts (almonds preferred).

 

1 hour before Dinner: 4 oz. vegetable juice.

 

Dinner: Raw vegetable salad, steamed vegetables, one protein, (meat, fish, fowl or vegetable protein, e.g. tofu). Health beverage.

 

2 to 3 hours after dinner: 8 oz. nut or seed milk or vegetable juice.

 

Allowed Vegetables: asparagus, avocado, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, celery, corn, cucumber, eggplant, lima beans, onions, peas, squash, parsnips, turnips, string beans, leaf lettuce, watercress, parsley.

 

Allowed Fruits: apples, apricots, peaches, pears, berries, melons, pineapple, oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruit.

 

Allowed Beverages: Herbal teas, whey, vegetable juices, limited fruit juices, nut and seed milks, soy milk. Avoid grape and other sweet juices.

 

Allowed Desserts: Unsweetened gelatin and fruits occasionally.

 

Note: Where juices are mentioned, it is best if they are made in a juicer.

 

Infections:

Invasion of the body by harmful organisms such as bacteria and viruses.

 

Bodywork: The affected area can be bathed in a solution of two or three drops of Dettol diluted in a saucer full of distilled

water, or a few drops of Swedish Bitters again diluted in distilled water. Bathe the affected part. For foot infections, take a

few drops of apple cider vinegar to a cupful of distilled water and bathe affected area.

 

Supplements: Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin A.

 

Herbs: Echinacea, Propolis, Capsicum, Yarrow, Garlic, Golden Seal, Myrrh.

 

Homeopathic: Tissue Salt #4 (Ferrum phos.)

 

Immune System:

To help strengthen the immune system so that one is less susceptible to infections, etc., the following suggestions are made.

Bodywork: Rebounder, exercise (any type that best suits the individual). Epsom Salts baths (1 cup Epsom Salts to a tub of hot water) 2‑3 times a week. Be sure the bowels are working regularly.

 

Food: Follow the food guidelines given in Appendix A (Food Lists). Make sure to get lots of fibre in the diet.

 

Supplements: Acidophilus, Biotin, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12,

Pantothenic Acid, Zinc, Iron, Manganese (one, three times a week until the container is finished, leave for six months),

Magnesium.

 

Herbs: Echinacea, Dandelion, Garlic.

 

Homeopathic: Taraxacum (but do not take Dandelion herb at same time), Thuja.

 

Impotence:

 

There are many factors which can cause this condition. A medical assessment should be undertaken first. The thyroid should be checked to see whether it is functioning normally. See Thyroid.

 

Supplements: Zinc, Vitamin E.

 

Herbs: Saw Palmetto, Ginseng, Sarsasparilla.

 

Homeopathic: Sabal (but do not take Saw Palmetto herb at same time), Lycopodium (in older men)

 

Injuries:

 

Homeopathic: Immediately after an injury take Arnica 200. Later a combination of Arnica, Hypericum and Rhus Tox 200 will

help repair nerves, work on tendons and help with pain. If the injury is from a puncture, take Ledum. For sprains, especially

ankles and wrists and bruises on bones, tendons and cartilage, take Ruta.

 

Insomnia:

 

The inability to fall asleep or to remain asleep for an adequate length of time so that tiredness is virtually permanent. Insomnia may be associated with disease, particularly if there are painful symptoms. It‑is most often caused by worry.

 

Foods: Avoid coffee and regular tea at evening.

 

Supplements: B Complex Vitamins, Vitamin B3, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium.

 

Herbs: Royal Jelly, Hops (but do not use if person is depressed), Valerian, Lobelia, Passion Flower, Skullcap. A tea of

Chamomile flowers and Valerian root taken before going to bed is very relaxing. Note: Valerian should not be taken for more

than 3 weeks at a time on a regular basis.

 

Homeopathic: Coffea (but do not take regular coffee), Kali Phos, Ignatia, Opium, Tabacum, Gelsemium.
