Candida Albicans:
A genus of
yeast‑like fungi that inhabit the vagina and alimentary tract from the
mouth to the large intestine. Under certain situations these fungi can
cause
Candidiasis. This condition often occurs in people who have had a lot of
antibiotics or cortisone, or are on birth control pills, or have travelled
abroad to third world countries. Some experts say everyone has candida in
the body, but the immune system keeps it under control. If the immune
system is low, the body is open to a proliferation of Candida.
A person with
Candida is usually very tired, can have bloating of the stomach, gas,
brain fatigue with loss of memory, recurrent vaginal infections,
premenstrual syndrome, allergies, headaches, bladder infections, athlete's
foot, joint pains, depression, anxiety. In children the indications
include diaper rash, recurrent ear infections, learning problems,
hyperactivity, short attention span.
One way to
understand what yeast is doing in your body is to consider the way bread
is made. To prepare the yeast for bread one needs to place it in a little
water. If this was the only step, nothing would happen, but when a little
sugar is added the yeast starts to grow. Should too much sugar be added
the yeast will grow at an incredible rate.
Food: The diet is
the major focus that must be addressed in order to get the condition under
control. Changing the food intake/diet is the primary method of
controlling the condition. Avoid all foods that contain yeast. Avoid
refined processed foods that contain sugar of all kinds, including maple
syrup, honey, corn syrup, molasses, etc. Limit the consumption of fruit
because it contains large amounts of fructose (fruit sugar). Yeast feeds
on sugar. Limit the consumption of milk as it contains lactose, that is,
milk sugar. There are a number of cookbooks available for yeast‑free
diets. Find one that suits you.
As the problem is
being eliminated, you should also consider food rotation. The easiest
application of this is not to eat the same thing at a meal on a regular
basis. In other words, have a different breakfast on a daily basis and a
different lunch and supper each day. This way the body does not become
used to a particular food. Include 2 teaspoons of olive oil a day in the
diet. A high fiber diet is needed including lots of oat bran.
