WHAT IS CHINESE MEDICAL MASSAGE (TUINA)?
A series of
massages will go a long way in relieving some of the surface stress. There are
many types of bodywork that come under the heading of masso-therapy. Rolfing is
deep tissue massage. Hellerwork is deep tissue also but a little lighter. Trager
is connective tissue massage. Shiatsu is Japanese acupressure. Tuina is Chinese
medical massage.
By using
therapeutic hand, finger, and wrist techniques to move Qi along specific
dermazones and acupoints, stress and tension are relieved. The practitioner works quickly and intently with an eye towards moving the Qi (energy). It is usually done seated and clothed however sometimes the patient lies down. In China it is used to treat pinched nerve, sciatica, slipped disc, twisted neck, tennis elbow, knee problems, headaches, poor circulation, flu virus, cold symptoms, sore throat, sinus problems, shoulder aches and pains among others.
